Power Futures Win Atlantic Coastal Spring Swing
The Power "Futures" 13U girls played in the Atlantic Coastal Spring Swing tournament on May 4th & 5th in Monroeville. While it was a wet, drizzling weekend, the girls still finished pool play with a record of 2-1 and earned the #1 seed by only allowing 9 runs.
As the top seed, the girls had a bye in the quarterfinal. The semi-final game versus the Pittsburgh Tigers started a little slow for Power, and the Tigers jumped to an early 4-0 lead. As the girls settled down, they took charge of the game and battled back. A stingy defense was led by the outfield crew of Ali Domachowski, Kylie Staudt, and Rylee Kratochvil. With Katie Fluharty on the mound and Taylor Karpac behind the plate, the girls didn?t allow another run. The girls got the offense going and ended up tying the score at 4-4 when Julia Drazga put down a bunt with Kelli McConnell on third. This perfect execution of a suicide squeeze led to a 5-4 victory and propelled the team into the final.
The girls took the momentum from the previous game right into the Championship game versus Pittsburgh Spirit. The bats got hot with everyone recording at least one hit. Cassidy Dice and Ella Gialone had multiple hits while Jocelyn Langer recorded the team?s first homerun (in the park). Power ?Futures? 13u won a convincing final with a one hit, shut-out performance by Allyssa McCormick and a brick wall catching performance by Jordyn Glumac. It was a great team effort and an exciting start to the outdoor season!
