Smith 16U Smashes the Competition

Pittsburgh Power Smith 16U finished their fall tournament season with smashing success, taking first place at the Pittsburgh Predators Pumpkin Smash tournament in New Kensington, Pa October 12-14. This championship win comes one week after falling short in semi final play, at the Canfield October Smash, losing by only 1 run to the would be champions.

After a rain delayed Saturday start, the girls quickly set the pace for the weekend in game 1 of pool play with a 5-0 shutout with Chloe Smith on the rubber. The bats were hot all weekend, outscoring their opponents 31-7 in a 5 and 0 sweep.

Leading the offense was Alexis Petropoulos batting .692, followed closely by Chloe Smith .625, Gina Petropoulos .600, Melina Buffalini .556, Hannah Hanford .545 and Emily Essel .500.

The defense was stellar as well this weekend, highlighted by a key play in the 5th inning of the championship game, when Olivia Logan played a ball deep in the RF corner and threw a laser to SS Lexi Lemanski at 2nd base to easily tag out the batter and shut down the inning.

Great start to the 2018/19 season for this group of talented girls!
